About the artwork

One of my friends says I remind him of Jeff Spicoli, that stoner dude from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. While not a raging stoner, there are similarities… we both have Italian surnames, I was born the year that movie came out, I love the Californian coastline, and I stare off into space regularly. To celebrate the similarities, I told my friend I would name a picture after Spicoli. It turned out to be this one. ‘One for Spicoli’ is one of my favourite pastel paintings so far. It captures a slice of Back Beach where the water turns an icy blue, whipped up by a cool southerly offshore breeze and illuminated just right.
